Have some bottle – water is the key!!  As coaches, we should all be aware of our duty of care to the athletes we work with and to be conscious of their needs – whatever their age! Coaching sessions may vary in length and intensity, and will have a greater physical impact on some participants than others; good coaches will be vigilant and awake to everyone’s physical wellbeing. Yet a simple thing such as water is often overlooked. It is important that your athletes stay hydrated (as it is known) during your sessions – indeed it is essential for their performance and their personal well being. Good hydration will help to keep their temperature stable, carry nutrients around their body, and will assist in keeping joints mobile. So, encourage each participant to have their own drinks bottle (not to share with others!!) and to bring it with them to every session! Go on, have some bottle!!
