Give sessions life – stay on the move! Are you contributing to the failure of your own sessions because you remain rooted to the spot? In my work as a coach educator one of the most common errors I have observed of new coaches is that they are often inactive, staying in the same place for the majority of a session (or they would if I allowed them to!). Good coaches are active, moving around the ‘working’ area to get a better view, engaging with participants, making adjustments to activities, or simply reinforcing by example the need for players to be active in order to contribute effectively. Of course this doesn’t mean that you are constantly moving or that you won’t hold a position – but their needs to be purposeful coach activity for effective coaching. Why not check how active you are by getting a friend/other coach to video you for a session – you may be surprised by the results!!
