MPL – Move, Play, Learn! The fundamental component of sport is movement, yet large numbers of coaches conspire to remove it with players often standing in files waiting for their ‘turn’! Movement underpins learning; babies move their heads to see what is around them and the process of developing learning through movement starts. As coaches we need to harness and build on this to develop knowledge, understanding and performance across physical, psychological, technical and tactical/strategic elements. Get your players MOVING from the start and keep them moving – use competitive and dynamic warm-up activities and exercises. Facilitate PLAY – unstructured/structured, small sided, conditioned, adapted games for example. And foster LEARNING by asking relevant questions (Coaching Tip No. 5) that challenge the learner and provide a focus. Don’t delay – Move, Play, Learn today!
