It was recently suggested to me by a coach development manager that coaches in their sport were consistently asking for more and more pre-written session plans. Indeed there are numerous web-sites that offer these ‘quick fix’ solutions to guarantee the success of coaching sessions. Do not be fooled into parting with your money!
The writer of whatever session you may choose from the internet does not know your players, has no idea of their stage of development, hasn’t a clue about their needs, and certainly has no interest in their personal development. You on the other hand should know you players; you will have worked with them to identify their strengths and weaknesses and will have agreed with them what they need to do to develop. And the sessions you will plan and deliver will be those with this information firmly in mind. By all means research for ideas, but be brave, think outside the box, and create sessions that are original – your players will appreciate your efforts!
