Tacklesport MD ‘Looks Better Naked’!

Tacklesport’s Managing Director Andrew Cushing is on a flying visit from Australia where he is currently working with several national sports bodies in the development of coaching resources. While here he is keen to maintain his regular training programme and has been given the perfect opportunity to do so by Lydney (Gloucesterhire) based Health and Fitness centre Club Ginger. Owner Andy Horne has worked hard to develop the facility into a fun and friendly gym after its launch in 2009. When he opened the Centre Andy said: “I don’t want it to be the kind of place where people just train and leave. I want it to feel like a club where everyone is included and we want to make getting fit more fun.” The Tacklesport view is that he has gone a long way towards achieving that aim!! If you live in (or are visiting) the Lydney area, and are interested in further information or signing up Andy and Club Ginger would love to hear from you! Just call 07594 841315, or click here. Come on, ‘Look Better Naked’!

BOA to lose drug ban

The British Olympic Association (BOA) expects that they will lose their court battle with the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) over the withdrawal of the by-law ban. If the law is revoked it would allow previous drug users such as Dwaine Chambers and David Millar to be eligible to compete at London 2012. The BOA believes that athletes should have a clean drugs record to be selected for Team GB and that they have the right to decide who should compete; however Wada suggest that this law has gone too far.

Millar admitted to taking banned substances in 2004 and served a two year ban from competition. If the law changes and he is then able to compete in this years Olympics he faces a serious dilemma,

“Is it a stronger message if I don’t go, is it a stronger message if I do go and perhaps try to change people’s opinion that forgiveness should be offered?” (BBC Scotland)

Should athletes with a poor track record be able to compete at this years Games? Or is this taking an opportunity away from a clean competitor?

The court appeal will be revealed next week, although it is already expected that the BOAs plea will be rejected.
